Over 20 Billion yuan! SANY Red Shines in Africa

July 25,2024

On July 25, the 7th China-Africa People's Forum and the 7th China-Africa Youth Leaders Forum opened in Changsha, Hunan. As a representative of the Hunan engineering machinery industry, Sany has a deep connection with Africa. Africa is the land of blessing for Sany and the starting point of its globalization. In 2002, the first batch of hydraulic graders exported by Sany was sold to Morocco in Africa. At that time, the Moroccan official newspaper "Morning News" reported the news on the front page, recording this historic moment. In the blink of an eye, Sany and Africa have gone hand in hand for 22 years. So far, Sany has achieved a cumulative sales revenue of more than 20 billion yuan in Africa and a total of more than 23,000 equipment units, ranking first among Chinese engineering machinery companies exporting products to Africa.

Local operation, rooted in Africa

In the initial period, the African market was relatively unfamiliar with "Made in China". As one of the earliest Chinese engineering machinery companies to enter the African market, Sany Group adopted a localized operation strategy and won the trust of local customers with excellent quality and perfect after-sales service.

Africa has high temperatures all year round and the road conditions are relatively poor. Ordinary products are very prone to failure when driving in Africa. Through market research, Sany has made adaptability improvements to all products exported to Africa, such as truck cranes, front loaders and other equipment that need to pass local load tests, and excavators used in mines are equipped with self-lubricating systems, etc., to develop products and service models that meet local needs. At the same time, in order to improve local spot satisfaction, service response and parts supply efficiency, Sany has built a number of parts warehouses and service bases in Africa. Among them, the largest parts warehouse, Sany South Africa Parts Center Warehouse, covers an area of about 20,000 square meters, reserves spare parts and wearing parts with a total value of US$14 million, and has the highest spot satisfaction rate in the local industry.

In 2023, as a key construction project of Sany Group's globalization strategy, Sany South Africa Headquarters Base broke ground in Johannesburg. The project investment is 300 million rand (about 115 million yuan), positioned as a regional manufacturing center, logistics center and talent center, with a planned annual production capacity of 3,000 excavators and other equipment to serve the entire African region. With the in-depth promotion of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the "China-Africa Cooperation Vision 2035", Sany's development in Africa has entered the fast lane. At present, Sany has 15 subsidiaries in Africa, permanent branches in more than 30 African countries, an employee localization rate of more than 50%, 13 high-quality agents, and equipment in more than 50 countries and regions in Africa.

Building a beautiful new Africa

After entering the African market, Sany equipment has participated in the construction of almost all major African projects, actively participating in the upsurge of "building a beautiful new Africa".

In Kenya, 120 Sany equipment perfectly participated in the construction of the first overseas fully Chinese standard railway-the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway. As of the completion of the main construction of the project, no downtime failure occurred; in the Algerian Grand Mosque, the tallest building in Africa, Sany pumping equipment created a number of records such as the largest single concrete pouring volume in Africa and the best bottom plate temperature control; in major mines in Zimbabwe, Sany equipment attendance rate is higher than 95%, service parts are supplied in a timely manner, and are widely praised by customers......In major projects such as the South Africa World Cup stadium, the world's largest Dangote refinery in Nigeria, the largest copper mine in Africa, Lumwa in Zambia, the Lusaka International Airport in Zambia, the largest water conservancy project in Angola, the Kaka Hydropower Station, and the Maputo Cross-sea Bridge in Mozambique, Sany equipment can always be seen waving its iron arms and completing tasks with excellent performance.

At present, in African countries, Sany's main products include concrete machinery, excavators, lifting machinery, road machinery, energy machinery, port machinery and other equipment. Among them, concrete machinery is the first brand in the African market, and excavators, lifting machinery, port mobile machinery and other equipment are the first brands made in China.

In addition, Sany is actively deploying new energy industries in Africa. In May this year, Sany Group signed a memorandum of cooperation on a 30MW photovoltaic power generation + 60MWh energy storage project with the Zambian government. The "mine + photovoltaic + electric" business model has made substantial progress, which is of milestone significance and has become a model for Sany's new energy layout in Africa and even the world.

Deeper level, communication with people

During the 22 years of deep cultivation in Africa, Sany not only helped Africa build infrastructure with high-quality engineering machinery, but also participated in Africa's construction at a deeper level, focusing on communicating with the African people.

During this process, Sany technicians have organized various technical trainings many times, shared advanced technologies with the local people, and cultivated a group of modern industrial talents who understand management and technology for the local people.

According to statistics, Sany and its agent system have created more than 5,000 employment opportunities for Africa.

Many African students also choose to study at Sany Engineering College under Sany Group, studying engineering machinery and manufacturing majors, aiming to improve the local industrial technology level after returning home.

At the same time, Sany actively practices corporate social responsibility, deeply integrates into and gives back to the local society.Among them, in June 2023, Sany Group donated a SY215C excavator worth $150,000 to Malawi to help local development and construction. Malawian President Chakwera said, "In order to achieve rapid development, this kind of equipment is exactly what we need now. This is a precious gift." In September of the same year, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake occurred in Morocco. The epicenter was located in a remote mountainous area. More than 50% of the buildings were damaged. The lack of large-scale mechanical equipment to open up roads made it impossible for the victims to receive rescue and medical treatment in time. Sany and local agents quickly dispatched 7 equipment and engineers to the disaster area to open up life channels, which was highly praised by the people of China and Africa.Looking ahead, Sany Group will further expand its presence in the African market and continue to deepen its all-round cooperation with African partners in the fields of smart manufacturing, infrastructure construction, new energy, etc., to create greater value for customers and make greater contributions to promoting Africa's industrialization and modernization.
