On July 15, as a new generation of LiuGong 9075F series hydraulic excavator slowly rolled off the production line, LiuGong Eastern R&D and Manufacturing Base (hereinafter referred to as LiuGong Eastern Base) ushered in another important milestone - the 100,000th excavator rolled off the production line.

From the first excavator rolled off the production line in Changzhou in 2010, to the 5,000th in 2014, and then to the 100,000th excavator, after 14 years of hard work, LiuGong Eastern Base has demonstrated strong manufacturing capabilities and operational efficiency, and has developed into an industrial cluster integrating R&D, manufacturing, marketing and after-market of multiple product lines such as excavators, bulldozers, mining equipment and small construction machinery.

Achieving transformation and upgrading with intelligent manufacturing

In the first half of this year, the production completion rate of LiuGong's excavator business in the Eastern Base reached 100%, of which the production and manufacturing capacity of super-large excavators increased by 62.5%. Behind the optimization and improvement of production capacity is the transformation and upgrading brought about by intelligent manufacturing.

Under the opportunities and challenges of the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, LiuGong's Eastern Base firmly grasps the main direction of intelligent manufacturing, relies on innovation to drive the transformation of new and old kinetic energy, and comprehensively speeds up the creation of smart factories. It has been rated as a smart factory in Jiangsu Province, a green factory in Jiangsu Province, and an industry benchmark factory.

As early as 2015, LiuGong's Eastern Base began lean transformation. In the critical period of climbing over hurdles in industrial transformation and upgrading, the construction of a lean production system is regarded as a good prescription for promoting intelligent manufacturing, igniting the "new engine" of enterprise development, and multiple lean transformation projects have been completed and put into production, and technical transformation and innovation projects are in full swing, with a significant improvement in automation, digitalization, and informationization.

On May 28, 2021, the Eastern Base Phase II project was put into production and the first product was launched. The project covers an area of 500 mu, with a plant of 170,000 square meters, and 858 sets of equipment including machining centers, RGV conveyor lines, AGV intelligent logistics vehicles, and automatic welding lines. The project integrates LiuGong's eastern regional product lines, focusing on the research and development and manufacturing of large-scale high-end mining excavators, loaders, bulldozers, mining trucks and other equipment, creating a comprehensive intelligent solution for mining operations, and forming an annual production capacity of 3,000 large-scale engineering machinery and 4,000 mining machines.

Driving high-quality development with technological innovation

The 100,000th excavator of LiuGong Eastern Base was successfully rolled off the production line, which is not only the fruit of the transformation and upgrading of intelligent manufacturing, but also the embodiment of the technological innovation and development of LiuGong excavator products.

From the first generation of "pioneer" in 1992, to the sixth generation of "transcendence" in 2019, and then to the newly upgraded F series excavators released at LiuGong's 5.28 Global Customer Festival this year, LiuGong excavators have taken the lead in realizing the application of full-series full-electronic control technology, and the product family has expanded to more than 70 models from 1.7 to 135 tons, covering crawler excavators, wheeled excavators, fuel power, diversified power, remote control, unmanned driving and other models.

Since the beginning of this year, LiuGong Eastern Base has steadily promoted the iterative upgrade of excavator products and developed new small excavator items. The domestic sales growth of micro excavators has been better than the industry average year-on-year, and the market share has increased significantly. It has also focused on increasing the development of international markets such as Europe and the United States to create high-quality hot-selling products. In the field of electric excavators, the product spectrum from 1.5 to 90 tons is completed, and the sub-segments are further explored, with solutions for wetland, material grabbing, railway sleeper replacement, and agricultural and forestry fertilization. At the same time, LiuGong is making great strides into the wheeled excavator market. Currently, LiuGong wheeled excavators are being promoted and launched in a blowout manner, setting off a buying boom. The role of technological upgrades and changes in LiuGong's rise in the field of excavators is self-evident. Up to now, LiuGong's Eastern Base has applied for a total of 604 valid authorized patents, including 162 invention patents, 383 utility model patents, and 59 appearance patents.

As the "bridgehead" for LiuGong to implement the strategy of "comprehensive solutions, comprehensive intelligence, and comprehensive internationalization", the development and growth of LiuGong Eastern Base has played a strong role in boosting LiuGong's global expansion and enhancing its market competitiveness.
